True Accountability is About Responsibility, Not Retribution.

Few words are thrown around more often than “accountability.” It’s a cornerstone of high-performing teams, a buzzword in management seminars, and a frequent topic of conversation when things are happening that we don’t like. But what do we really mean when we talk about accountability? I think “accountability” is too often used as a thinly veiled substitute for “retribution.” It’s the hunt for a scapegoat when a project fails, the finger-pointing after a deadline is missed, or simply placing the blame. In this twisted version of accountability, the goal isn’t to fix the problem; it’s to find someone to punish, and to make an example of. This is not accountability. When teams operate under the shadow of retribution, they become risk-averse, secretive, and more concerned with covering their tracks than with doing their best work. True accountability is something entirely different. It’s rooted in a deep sense of responsibility. True

Scale Your Business Without Losing Control Using EOS®

Just about every entrepreneur dreams of scaling their business by expanding reach, increasing revenue, and achieving a bigger impact. But growth without structure can quickly spiral into chaos. Many business owners I work with in Western Michigan have grown so quickly that they get the speed wobbles. Everything feels out of control. Success starts to feel like a burden, decisions pile up, and a work culture that once felt strong begins to fray. You’re not alone if your growing business feels like a runaway train. The good news? There’s a way to grow with control, clarity, and confidence by implementing EOS®. Let’s look at what happens when growth outpaces structure and how EOS® can help you scale sustainably. What A Business Out of Control Looks Like A wildly successful business sounds like a good thing. But like they say, it’s possible to have too much of a good thing. When

The Elephant in the Room

Every leadership team has one. It’s the big, uncomfortable truth that sits in the middle of the room that everyone sees, but no one wants to name. I saw it recently in a client session where a major issue was identified, but the real solution remained elusive. The team talked around the root cause as if it were an immovable mountain, proposing superficial patches and ultimately resigning themselves to the problem. The truth, however, was right in front of them—the real solution was just more painful and inconvenient than they were ready to accept. Look around your own business, and you’ll find these elephants. Maybe it’s the long-time vendor who leverages your loyalty while their service continues to decline. It could be the legacy software that everyone complains about, but suffering with it feels easier than the pain of finding—and paying for—a system that actually works. Most often, it’s a

Navigating Through Uncertainty: A Leadership Imperative

Uncertainty is the one thing every business leader can count on. Whether it’s the looming possibility of a global trade war, the impact of tariffs, or rapid shifts in regulatory policy, today’s economic environment is riddled with unanswered questions. For CEOs and entrepreneurs alike, the challenge is clear: how do you move your business forward when so much feels out of your control? Many businesses are feeling the pressure. Some are grappling with declining sales, others with late payments that wreak havoc on cash flow. Meanwhile, shifting policies can disrupt everything from supply chains to pricing models. In times like these, leadership teams often find themselves reacting instead of proactively steering the ship. That’s why it’s more important than ever to pause and get grounded in three critical actions: 1. Identify the root cause of the challenge—not just the symptoms. 2. Discuss and explore all available options, even the uncomfortable

Why Promo Companies Get Stuck and How EOS Fixes It For Good!

The Reality of Running a Promo Business If you run a promotional products company, chances are you’re moving fast, wearing too many hats, and juggling a dozen competing priorities every day. Most owners I meet have: 1–2 heavy hitters driving all the sales growth A business that’s hit a ceiling on scaling Constant firefighting with no time to slow down and get strategic A nagging feeling that “if it’s meant to be, it’s up to me” In short: the owner becomes the bottleneck! I know this world well. My dad built and ran a distributor company for nearly 30 years, and I grew up watching the sales rushes, the seasonal swings, and the challenge of balancing creativity with execution. And here’s what I saw: many great promo companies stall out because of weak accountability, bottlenecks, and lack of effective communication. Growth creates chaos instead of clarity. The team stalls, and

Implementation vs. Transformation: Why EOS Only Works If You Let It

As a Certified EOS Implementer®, I get the privilege of working with leadership teams who want more from their business—more profit, more clarity, more control, more freedom. And one thing has become very clear: there’s a big difference between helping a team implement EOS and watching a team be transformed by EOS. Both matter. But only one creates lasting change. Implementation: The Starting Line When a team first begins EOS, we focus on the foundational tools: This is what I call implementation. It’s critical. It gives structure, language, and discipline to the organization. But if all a team ever does is implement the tools, they’ll improve some processes, clean up a few pain points, and maybe feel a little more organized. It’s better—but it’s not the breakthrough. Transformation: Where the Magic Happens Transformation happens when a team goes beyond using the tools and lets the tools change them. That’s when…
