5 Proven Ways to Get Out of Your Own Head and Boost Problem-solving Skills

When teams are hard on themselves, they tend to push themselves even harder and they use language like, “We can grind through it, we can get through this. We just need to roll up our sleeves and get it done.” That type of thinking doesn’t lend itself to greater creativity or problem solving. Instead, when teams are more creative, they tend to laugh more, they move their bodies more, and they’re using more positive language about themselves and their goals. Creative problem-solving flows out of that mindset much more naturally — and it delivers greater results. In moments when teams are being hard on themselves, I often help them notice where they’re feeling tension and stress in their bodies. That helps bring a greater awareness to the present moment and to their emotions. It gets them out of their heads and back into the present moment. Let’s take a look

Break Through The Ceiling To Achieve Growth

Have you hit the ceiling?  Is your business “stagnant”?   All businesses hit ceilings. Sometimes its you that hits the ceiling, sometimes its a department. The way we respond to hitting the ceiling is what’s important. Larry Greiner wrote the article, “Evolution and Revolution as Organizations Grow” back in 1972 and much of what he talks about still holds true today.  It was such a good article, Harvard Business Review reprinted the article in 1998.  Greiner says the most obvious factor for growth is the age of the organization. “Management problems and principles are rooted in time.”  He also talks about phases of growth and describes how particular management problems must be resolved before growth can happen. Greiner’s 5 phases of growth 1. Creativity – long hours of work are rewarded by modest salaries and the promise of ownership benefits, communication is frequent and informational. 2. Direction – communication becomes more

The Visionary & Integrator: Your Business Co-Pilots

Every pilot needs a co-pilot. Someone they can trust to handle issues when they arise and are there to help make sure their journey goes smoothly. The same is true when it comes to running a business. Even the best business owners typically can’t do it all—even if they think they can. As a business leader, you need someone to help fill in the gaps so that you can spend your time focusing on maximizing your energy and doing the things you love in your business. In the Entrepreneurial Operating System, we define these two roles as the Visionary and the Integrator. They are the people sitting at the top of your Accountability Chart and are in charge of the major functions of the business, but both have very different roles. Here’s how we define them. Who is the Visionary? The Visionary is often the person who founded the business

When EOS is Not the Right Set of Tools

“I suppose it is tempting, if the only tool you have is a hammer, to treat everything as if it were a nail.” Abraham Maslow   The EOS Toolbox™ is like a Swiss Army knifeⓇ, a multi-tool for your business. In three words: Real. Simple. Results. This sounds amazing, right? But there’s a catch: No matter how great it is, a Swiss Army Knife is still not the right tool for every job. In the same way, EOSⓇ works for most organizations, but not for all. Here are five scenarios where we see that EOS might not be the right set of tools for your business. Keeping the “Untouchables”: Team health trumps all. You need to be willing to have the hard conversations and make the tough calls. This is especially true in the case of your Untouchables. These are the people who, if they weren’t family or you hadn’t worked

Top 10 Reasons Why You Should Hire a Professional EOS® Implementer

I had a conversation with a seasoned emerging growth entrepreneur and EOS prospect on Friday about implementing the Entrepreneurial Operating System for his growing company. We had a very frank conversation and he asked me point-blank, “Why should I hire you to implement EOS, when I can self implement the system myself?”. I did my best to reply to his questions on the spot, but over the course of the weekend decided it was probably worth addressing in a blog post. If he is asking the questions, how many other second stage entrepreneurs are doing the same. I decided to put list together of the top reasons that you should use an EOS Implementer: Human Nature – We help you focus on what you need to do vs. human nature’s tendency to encourage you to do what you want to do. Objectivity – We provide an external, independent, and trusted

A Simple Way to Find Your Integrator that Works Every Time

When working on a puzzle, most people piece the border together first. It’s a proven strategy for success.  By creating the outline of what you want, your boundaries are clear and you can begin filling in the pieces. We like to use the same strategy when searching for the right person to fill an Integrator role. The Visionary defines the border and the picture begins to take shape. Visionary Roles and Responsibilities Come First Visionaries are colorful characters and no two are exactly the same.  When the Visionary defines their roles and responsibilities first, they set the path to ensure Integrator success. This creates the opportunity to custom select an Integrator that best compliments the Visionary’s strengths and weaknesses. The ultimate goal is to free the Visionary up from everything, but their Unique Ability™. Create an Accountability Matrix for the Visionary The Accountability Matrix is a useful tool to help
