I didn’t study leadership in a classroom. I earned it on the dealership floor. I advanced from Finance Manager, New Car Manager, General Sales Manager, to General Manager of the most profitable Dodge dealership in Minneapolis before purchasing my own Ford dealership. I’m one of the 10% of dealership owners who entered the business without a family connection.
Through tough, real-world experience, I learned how to drive performance early. KPI’s and profitability were my primary focus. What I learned later – often the hard way – was that performance without a healthy leadership team is unsustainable. We inevitably “hit the ceiling” until I could align the whole leadership team (and company) around a shared vision.
Since selling the dealership, I’ve dedicated the past 15 years to helping entrepreneurs avoid some of my own mistakes by providing a proven system and focused coaching on how to build their businesses in a way that is both healthy and smart.
