What’s Behind Your Big WHY As An Organization?
As a business owner or leader, your company’s Core Focus is the driving force behind your success. Understanding the passion, cause or purpose, or your big WHY within that Core Focus, that fuels your organization is crucial for aligning your team, shaping your strategies and communicating with your market. Generally, your business can be categorized based around one of four central motivations: winning, problem-solving, helping and building a great company. Each of these motivations speaks to a different kind of passion and plays a unique role in defining your company’s identity and approach to the marketplace. Winning: The Drive to Be Number One The desire to win is a powerful motivator for many businesses. This drive is about being the best in the field and not just participating in the competition but leading it. Companies driven by winning are continually seeking ways to outperform their competitors, capture more market share and be at
Military Veteran Entrepreneurs
This is the first in a series of four short papers centering around military veterans who own and/or founded businesses in Colorado. The papers are based on discussions with military veterans who founded and/or currently own companies in Colorado. The purpose of these papers is to examine three areas unique to military veteran business owners/founders. 1) How mentoring and networking played a role (or not) in their success; 2) hiring and retaining fellow veterans as employees; and 3) leveraging their veteran-owned status in their business. The final paper presents perspectives on the pros and cons of the veterans’ businesses being in Colorado and advice they would share with other military veteran business owners. Topic 1: Supporting Veteran Business Owners: Strategies for Mentoring and Networking in Veteran/Military Spouse Owned Businesses Introduction Transitioning from military service to entrepreneurship presents a unique set of challenges for veterans. However, with the right support networks
Stuck in the Weeds?
Are you stuck in the weeds of your business? Do you struggle to focus on the big stuff because you are constantly pulled into firefighting and the rush of day-to-day responsibilities? This issue often sits near the top of the list for leaders that I speak with, and for good reason. You can’t grow if you can’t let go. There are lots of reasons why you end up in the weeds, and I’ve got a simple EOS Tool that will help you get out and stay out. It’s called the Delegate and Elevate Tool. Increase Your Capacity by Delegating & Elevating One of the biggest reasons leaders get stuck in the minutiae of a business is capacity. You’re maxed out. Even the things you used to enjoy start to feel like a chore, burnout begins to zap your love for the work you do, and you lose sight of your ideal life

EOS Target Market – Your Ideal Customer
Having a marketing strategy is essential to finding and attracting the right customers for your business. Do you know who your “right customers” are? If not, you are probably scrambling around trying to get anyone and everyone who might have an interest in doing business with you. Defining your ideal client or customer helps you to focus how you spend your limited time, money, and resources. In EOS®, businesses define who they want as ideal clients or customers by answering questions that describe them from three different viewpoints: geographic, demographic, and psychographic characteristics. Geographic: While we would love to take over the world, we have to recognize that we only have capacity to serve a small part of it. What part do you want to serve? Are you willing to travel 3 hours away or do you want to keep it within 50 miles? Or are you ready to serve the

Are You Running Your Business, or Is It Running You?
Are You Running Your Business, or Is It Running You? As a business owner, it’s likely you started this journey to create something, call the shots, and steer your own course. But too often, founders find themselves feeling controlled by the business they created rather than confidently in control. When you’re constantly putting out fires, reacting to the most urgent issue of the moment, and overwhelmed by relentless operational tasks and details, it’s almost impossible to think strategically or be proactive about driving your company’s vision. If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone. Many business leaders struggle to find the time, energy, and focus to step back and actually work ON their business instead of getting bogged down within them. However, there is a way to gain control again – implementing EOS with the support of an implementer like myself! Reclaiming Your Time and Headspace with EOS EOS provides a set

Visionaries, what’s your Vision?
If you are here, take a moment to get present and BE. Really, I insist. Take a breath. Inhale. Exhale. From a space of stillness, slowing down to find clarity we get aligned and activated. It’s a practice and discipline to come back to time and again. In implementing a system like EOS, the art and science of slowing down to move fast begins with alignment. One of eight questions I ask clients in our vision building sessions together is, “What’s your Core Target?”. This can be a challenging question – I hear rebuttals like, “ten years is too far out”, “our employees don’t care”, “this is a waste of my time, I want to go fast (oh, wait that’s Ricky Bobby). Here’s my promise to you, once you answer this question, it will drive the activities that your business focuses on today, this quarter, this year and beyond. A
