Your P&L Called. It Has News From 30 Days Ago.

If your numbers only tell you what happened last month… you’re already behind.

As you grow, more revenue shouldn’t mean:

  • More chaos
  • More firefighting
  • Less visibility

But for a lot of leadership teams, it does.

You can’t “feel” the business anymore, you’re further from the front lines and problems show up later than they used to.

So what happens?

You compensate with:

– More meetings

– More reporting

– More check-ins

…and now you’re much busier yet still feel less in control.

The real issue: you’ve lost the pulse and your ability to answer, with confidence:

  1. Are we on track this week?
  2. Are the right things getting done?
  3. Would we know if we were drifting?

Financials won’t tell you (until it’s too late) and more dashboards won’t save you (even if they look fancy).

You need a replacement for gut feel.

A simple, weekly scorecard of leading indicators that tell you if you’re winning or losing before the game is over. E.g.

  • Sales calls completed
  • Proposals sent
  • Customer retention touches
  • Production output
  • Hiring activity

Three rules that make it actually work:

1. Every number has one owner: No ambiguity. No diffusion of responsibility.

2. It’s reviewed every single week: Not monthly or quarterly or “when we have time.”

3. Red means act now: Not naval-gazing, but action.

Sanity check: If a number moves weekly and drives results, it belongs. If not, leave it out.

When this is in place, you’ll feel it:

– Fewer surprises

– Clearer accountability

– A real sense of control again

Ask yourself this simple test: Right this minute, can confidently say whether you’re on track? Or are you waiting until “the books are closed” to find out?
