Right People, Right Seats

Like many entrepreneurs, I’m a big fan of Jim Collins. And while his wisdom has played a significant role in the EOS tools, there is a lot more to learn from him. In his book, Good to Great, Jim Collins introduced the concept of Right People Right Seats.

Right people are people who share your organization’s Core Values. They strengthen the culture of your team just by being who they are. They live and breathe your Core Values, whether they are at work, at home, or in the community.

Right Seats is all about ability. Being in the right seat means that the individual has the innate ability to be great at their job. They want to be successful in their role and have the skills, knowledge, and experience to achieve that success.

As you read the above descriptions, think through every member on your team. Would you say that each and every individual is the Right Person in the Right Seat?

Is every employee better at their job than you are? If they aren’t – why not? More importantly, why are you settling?

Every entrepreneur dreams of having a team of high performers, but few are ready to put in the work to get there. But, as Collins points out, ‘Consistent application of RPRS yields tangible benefits—heightened productivity, increased job satisfaction, and enhanced overall performance. The right people in the right seats become catalysts for innovation, contributing to positive workplace cultures and fostering sustained growth’.

Now, that sounds amazing!

So, as you step into 2024 and make plans for the further success of your business, I encourage you to take stock of exactly who is an RPRS, and who isn’t. Then, let’s start talking about what you want to do about it.

If I can help you with RPRS (or anything else on your business horizon for 2024), please reach out.
