Own the Loss. Win the Room.

I woke up in a cold sweat.

My last session with this client was a stinker. It wasn’t tight. We wandered, and issues stayed open. That was on me.

I build high-performance teams. Last time, we lost. I love to win.

I replayed every minute of it in the Lyft on the way in.

The easy move was to act like it never happened. Instead, I opened with it.

“I failed you last time. How do we make sure that doesn’t happen again?”

The CFO reminded me of the EOS Guarantee.

“If you don’t get value, you don’t pay.”

Fair.

Then the team answered. We prepared better. It wasn’t all on you. We own this together. We win today.

So I stopped holding back. No filter, as I tell Scott Mann. I stayed present and found flow. Credit to Rodney Mueller and Steven Kotler’s “Stealing Fire.”

The new guy at check-in became our FNG. I’ll let you fill in the F.

The CEO faced a Type 1 decision, a one-way door. I told the room it belonged to the Big Macher, Yiddish for the one who makes things happen. Shout out to Rivkie Meisels.

The CFO kept a sidebar going in the back, so I offered him the corner seat. He laughed and kept right on going.

Mark O’Donnell and I always say we’re putting on a show. His grandfather was the World Champion Juggler and was in the Ringling Brothers Circus.

10s all around. Even the CFO.

When did owning a loss out loud win the room back for you?

Stay Curious,
