Leadership is a privilege, not a seat

Leadership is a seat

Someone made a point yesterday that I have not stopped thinking about.

Being on a leadership team is not a job description. It is a set of behaviors you agree to.

You engage the hard conversation instead of routing around it.

You take feedback without getting defensive about it.

You fight for what the whole company needs, not what you or your department needs.

You own the problem emotionally, not just operationally.

Most leadership teams have never said any of that out loud to each other. So the standard drifts. People start protecting their function. Conflict gets avoided in the room and re-litigated in the hallway.

Then everyone wonders why the team feels slow.

The teams I work with through EOS Worldwide that actually move fast are not smarter. They just named the bar and then held it.

If you have never told your leadership team what you expect of them beyond hitting their numbers, please add that to your next meeting agenda.
