Have you ever watched 5-year-olds play soccer?
The kids all cluster around the ball as it moves around the field without any purpose, while a few of the kids roll around on the ground, eating grass, oblivious to the whereabouts of the ball. And it’s great. We are happy for them to ‘just get out there and have some fun’.
Contrast that with a professional soccer club meticulously executing a well-defined game strategy. These talented players are expensive, and they have spent years perfecting their craft. Each player knows their role, and they work together seamlessly to achieve a common goal. The difference is striking: while the kids may have fun, the professional team achieves success through a systematic approach to the game (and has fun doing it).
Running a successful business is like coaching a competitive sports team. It involves developing a clear vision, implementing efficient and consistent processes, and assigning specific roles to each team member – which they are accountable for. It requires collectively solving the issues that are holding the business back as they arise. Just as every player on a professional team contributes to the overall success of the system, every employee should understand how they contribute to the overall success of the business.
In other words, you need to run your business on a system… or you’ll risk relegation.
By implementing a management framework in your business, you empower your team to perform at their best while ensuring consistency and efficiency across all areas. From sales and marketing to operations and finance, a system provides the framework for sustainable growth. So, instead of leaving success to chance, embrace the power of a management framework and watch as your team achieves new heights of performance and profitability.
There are a handful of good business operating systems out there. Of course, I’m partial to EOS, as I believe it is the simplest and most effective system that I have found to date.
