Breakdowns lead to Breakthroughs

As we enter 2024, we celebrate being one more year removed from the havoc which the pandemic wreaked on our lives and the economy. Since that very first shutdown, every company’s story was different. Some businesses struggled, while others managed to thrive.

For most, now that pandemic-related turbulence has lessened, we seem to have started to settle into a new ‘normal’.

How is your new normal?

For many of us, the new normal includes a whole new set of uncertainties: how the hybrid office affects employee engagement, the challenge of rising interest rates, the threat of recession, and the emergence of AI in every facet of our lives – to name a few.

Sometimes these developments present themselves as opportunities, sometimes as threats.

But perception is just our interpretation of reality based on what we think and feel. One person’s threat is another person’s opportunity.

Entrepreneurs are used to disruption. Most of us have capitalized on it to propel our successes. But once we get comfortable, we fear changes to our landscape – sometimes to our detriment.

I want to issue a challenge. Take a look at the setbacks, the losses and the frustrations you are feeling and ‘turn that frown upside down’. Flip them over and find the opportunity: where is the silver lining?

It might be hard to find, at first, but I promise it is there!

Have you ever had that ‘critical’ employee leave, only to find you are stronger without them?

Or that whale of a client whose cheques you loved, but whose work you didn’t?

Setbacks are tough. But breakdowns can lead to breakthroughs – if you let them. Focus on your long-term goals, rally your team behind them, and you will come out ahead every time.
