I was born and raised in a family of small business owners and entrepreneurs, and I feel like I hit every branch of the entrepreneurial tree on the way down. As an 11-year-old, I built and sold personal computers from salvaged parts, advertising them in a South African publication called The Junk Mail.
From a young age, I dreamed of running my own business in the land of opportunity. I worked tirelessly to put myself in front of opportunities that could bring me closer to that dream. Fast forward through my school years and early adulthood, I landed a role as a technical consultant for a South African software startup headquartered in Seattle, WA. That opportunity brought us to the United States, where we immigrated and began building our life. During that time, I earned both my bachelor’s degree in IT and my MBA.
Eventually, I outgrew the pond and left the “mothership” to start a consulting practice with my wife. That’s when reality set in – because just like it does not matter how many books you read about boxing or how prepared you think you are, nothing prepares you for the first punch in the face of entrepreneurship. The MBA helped, but only so much. We were left to our own devices, constantly seeking answers to the common frustrations every entrepreneurial team faces: lack of control, people problems, evaporating profits, hitting the ceiling, and trying everything without seeing results. We began to realize that grit and intuition alone wouldn’t get us where we wanted to go – and the strain was starting to show in our personal lives.
That’s when a mentor and friend introduced us to Traction. We were hooked. We began implementing the simple, practical tools and soon noticed the frustrations start to evaporate, the ceilings start to break, and a new phase of growth open up. It was truly life-altering.
We eventually led our business to a successful exit. Afterward, I found myself craving fulfillment not in my own success, but in helping others achieve theirs. I discovered that fulfillment by introducing, teaching, facilitating, and coaching EOS as an official Implementer – helping other entrepreneurs overcome the same frustrations I once faced.
