Back in the dot-com days, I was doing IT support when our company was suddenly acquired by a large bank. Overnight, everything changed. One day we were scrappy and entrepreneurial; the next, we were buried in layers of corporate process. That moment made something crystal clear: I wasn’t built for Corporate America.

So, I took the leap and launched my own IT company. Here’s the truth: I had no idea how to run a business. I made every classic entrepreneurial mistake.

• I sold the business to a PE firm but still maintain the President title
• My team runs the day-to-day.
